Chess is one of the oldest board games that you can finally play on iPad and other iDevices such as iPhone, iPod, and Mac. iTunes and App Store are both flooded with chess game apps, but there are only a handful that are worth downloading.
One chess app I've found is the Shredder Chess for iPad, by Eiko Bleicher, Skizzix.com. This chess app can literally enhance your ability to play chess games. You can actually play with Shredder and solve chess puzzles at the same time. There are about 1000 built-in chess puzzles that you can solve. As you play and solve puzzles, Shredder keeps track of your game performance. The artificial intelligence of this app is very commendable as it warns you if you are about to make a wrong move during the game. Therefore, you learn some tricks and moves as you play with this app.
This app is available on iTunes for $7.99. It's a bit expensive but it's worth every penny you'll spend.
