What allergies do you have? How do you cope with it?

I'm allergic to dust. When my immunity is low, I would sneeze non-stop for hours. It is really a pain. What's your allergies?

I have allergies to cat and dog dandruff (along with your usual seasonal allergies). In addition to that, I have eczema, which teams up with allergies and causes some seriously irritable problems. Thankfully, no food allergies that I am aware of, but allergies in general, are quite a pain.

So, the question is: How to cope? Well, I think that is the wrong way to think about it. When I think of allergies, I think: how can I eliminate or weaken my allergic reactions. And I believe that I have found an excellent solution.

A little over 4 years ago, I switched to an organic lifestyle in hopes to rid myself of the torture of eczema and animal-related allergies. And, quite honestly, this change has helped me more than I would have thought possible. Before starting to eat organic, I could not go near cats of dogs without having sneezing fits and breaking out into rashes, which, with eczema, would last for months. During eczema outbreaks, I would have to wear gloves to bed as to not scratch in my sleep.

As of today, I live with a roommate that has 4 cats, and I don't have the slightest reaction. Eczema outbreaks are rare and mild, and I don't recall the last time I've had seasonal allergies. This is an extreme change in my overall quality of life, and I thank the fact that I changed to an all-around healthy lifestyle.

I don't know how well this works for food allergies, as I've never had any, but i believe that living a healthy lifestyle has to have a similar effect on those as well. Especially considering the fact that I have seen people develop allergies (rather than be born with them) during their lives. It has to be a reversible process.

I have allergies to diet Coke. After I take a few drinks I can't stop sneezing. I still drink it though. It is just that I need a lot of Kleenex to blow my nose afterwards!

I'm allergic to bee stings, irish spring soap, caffeine and witchhazel lol none of which have affected me in the least. Well the caffeine one was a hard lesson to figure out.. I admit it took me a long time to connect it was the caffeine that was making me sick. Once you cut it though.. its sort of like smoking.. in time its no longer even appealing.

I'm allergic to penicillin, it gives me a rash on my stomach. I cope with it by telling the doctor not to give it to me.

Me, too! I'm allergic to dusts, cats and dogs. I sneeze everytime I got to smell them. But, after maybe few sneezes or when everything I have inhaled has gone out then I'd be okay. That is why I never have pet dogs and cats. And with dusts, I clean everyday so they don't accumulate that much.

I'm allergic to dust also. In fact my eyes are all itchy and puffy right now. I don't really sneeze that much I just get red itchy eyes. As a result I probably don't dust as often as I should.

The wind blows a lot here in the spring I try not to go out when it is. I love to open my windows in the spring and I don't get to most days because of the dust.

I have an allergy to pollen that can range from mild to severe, depending on the severity of the onset of the pollination season. There have been days where I woke up with my eyes almost swollen shut and my nose completely clogged. My eyes will itch, redden, tear and leak, and swell up, compromising my normal vision and making me extremely sensitive to direct sunlight while I am out and about. When exposed to a pollen stimulus, I also tend to sneeze multiple times in a row and almost feel exhausted after I regain my composure. Mid- to late spring and early summer can be very bothersome times of year if my allergies emerge and make my life difficult. Sometimes over-the-counter antihistamines have helped in the past, but other times there was not much I could do but to sit it out and let my allergies take their course. Therefore, spring and summer for me can be pretty miserable times and all I can really do is avoid exposure to pollen.
