What about Mahalo Answers is different from Fluther? Are there certain kinds of questions that fit better with the respective communities?
More expertise on Mahalo? Quicker responses? Is the tipping (and thus the financial incentive to the key distinguisher for Mahalo?

I've never seen Fluther before today.
After a quick look, here are the competitive advantages that I think Mahalo Answers has:
Since I'm not involved with the Fluther community, I can't comment on the effectiveness of the backend programming or importantly on the community.
After a quick look, here are the competitive advantages that I think Mahalo Answers has:
- Mahalo Dollars; These tips can be turned into real money
- The point system at Mahalo Answers appears to be structured in such a way as to encourage community and foster good answers; While the Fluther points are very similar they appear to be designed for personal gratification.
- Mahalo is ran by very experienced web innovators including Jason Calacanis and Mark Jeffrey; Their contribuitons through questions, answers and the system itself is a competative advantage.
- The design; The Mahalo front end design is simple, clean and not centered around ads. In contrast, the Fluther design is dark, complicated and focused on monitization; Neither is truly better but I personally find the Mahalo front end easier to read.

Thanks Rob. I was hoping to get an answer from someone with experience using both, someone that had found uses for both, but I appreciate you having a look at Fluther and pointing out contrasts. I do feel some serious Mahalo pride showing through, however. Not sure you're coming at the answer from the most unbiased angle. But, regardless, big thanks for the answer. You've been tipped.
Thanks Jdegrazia!
I think that the "real" answer you were looking for may lie in your own personal comparison.
Maybe contribute here for a little while so that you can see why I'm a fan. I have no official affiliation with Mahalo and sincerely like it.
