I have to differ with you on this. Sydney Crosby gets more than his fair share of call from the referees. I am from Toronto and I watched the Penguins - Wings series last year. In my opinion, the Detroiters had to play against both the refs and Penguins. Crosby is a cheap shot artist next to none. I watched the slashes he put on players when the play changed direction and the refs were not watching. Montreal simply outplayed the boys from Pittsburgh. Remember that Sydney Crosby, classless as he is, is Gary Bettman's boy. The Pittsburgh team was built, not because of a good organization, but because they finished last so often and had first pick in the draft on multiple occasions. With Bettman's salary cap he has pared good players from good teams and left Pitt and Chicago with young stars. In a couple years the cap will hit those teams and you can expect them to suffer from it as you watch their players snatched away. If you are a Crosby fan, then for your sake I hope he develops a little class and can emulate the great emissaries of Hockey, such as Joe Sakic, Steve Yzerman and Niklaus Lidstrom. Until then I will always think of him as a child playing a man's game; a complainer second to none.

It has long been my experience that any time a fan starts complaining about the referees costing your team the win that your team didn’t deserve to win the game anyway. Certainly there are exceptions to the rule, but unless the refs are actually on the take, the chance that they are the reasons a team loses a game, or even worse a series is not very high. I know that in the NFL every once in a while you will hear about a call that actually changed the way the game was played and the momentum shifted but I’ve never really heard of that happening in an NHL game. I would be willing to venture that while you might think one team or player is getting all the calls, there are plenty of fans for the other team who are thinking the same thing on the other side of the issue. If your team lost, the bottom line is they didn’t do enough to win, and it wasn’t the referees’ fault.

I think the Habs were the victim of bad calls themselves during the playoffs, and that Sidney Crosby is the one getting the special treatment. If it weren't for the fact that Crosby scored one of the most important goals in Team Canada history at the 2010 Winter Olympics, I would have no respect for him. He constantly whines to the referees.

But your question is more about the Habs. The 1979 too many men on the ice should have been called. Maybe now and then a call goes their way, but other times it doesn't. All teams are victims of bad officiating at one time or another. You can hate the team but they beat the Pittsburgh Penguins fair and square, due to great defence and the continually spectacular play of Jaroslav Halak. In my opinion, Sidney Crosby is just a whiner who is starting to lose respect from other players.
