Were the Runaways ever really that popular of a band? Or popular enough to make a movie about?
I had heard the song "cherry bomb" a few years ago and thought it was cool that it was Joan Jett but didn't really think much else.
What made someone decide to do a Runaways movie? were they more popular than I thought?

Yes, I think so, I have always liked this band, there are some big names that came out of this band, of course Joan Jett went on to become huge, Lita Ford has several hits in the 80's, she was one of Heavy Metals, metal vixens, not to mention pretty awesome on the guitar.. then Cherie Currie starred in the movie "Foxes" along side Jody Foster, Scott Baio and Randy Quaid. Not sure what she is doing now. You can find out more about them on their website.
