Why
Well they both practiced human sacrifice, they both were located in the same country, they were both established on very fertile soil, they both had large cities with small farming villages surrounding them, they both had a class structure that was decided by your job, they both wrote in glyphs (pictures that stood for words, syllables, or sounds),they both had a fascination with astronomy, similarly making a very accurate calendar. Now why wouldn't they be warlike?
War is a produce of lacking resources and contentions over perceived limited resources.
Do you find evidence of increased commerce and cooperation or do you find evidence of carnage and political unrest?
That is a very good question.Well in my opinion I believe that chaos and unrest whether it be socially, politically or economic is more likely.I do not believe that war increases cooperation among the people.War is a barbaric act that has and will be committed by mankind since as long as human have been around.I do not however find evidence of increased commerce from war but as for carnage and political unrest I find that war is fueling all of that.So as for your question I would say that evidence of carnage and political unrest are more likely to appear then cooperation and commerce.
