Were the flip phones inspired by the communicators from Star Trek?

When you watch the old Star Trek television shows and the Star Trek movies, you see them whip out the communicator and it has the same look as today's cell phones. Do you believe that the designers of the cell phone use science fiction movies as their inspiration? Do you find yourself responding to the Star Trek look of the different gadgets like cell phones when you choose a style ?

I'd say the sci fi shows did have a bit of influence on our modern gadgets, after all, the nerds and geeks that design those things probably grew up watching Star Trek and the like! Personally, I'm not all that into modern space-age design, although I love the vintage space-age inspired furniture and decor from the 1950's.
