I have been in the Massage Therapy field for over fifteen years. I have trained in and taught many styles of massage.
A Swedish massage is very different from Thai. Swedish focuses on the lymphatic system with long strokes. Using plenty of lotion or oil, this type of bodywork is the most popular for relaxation.
Thai massage is very physical for both the therapist and the client.
This style is usually done on the floor. The client is dressed and there is no oil used. It involves stretching and deep tissue work, unlike Swedish. This style also focuses on range of motion, using poses and acupressure.
Ideally, a good massage therapist can utilize many of the different styles that they learn and incorporate many moves from many different techniques to compliment the clients needs.
