Help with my blog, please? http://thealternativepetandyou.blogspot.com/ Don't know what to do to get "followers" over there. Was BlogSpot possibly not the best pick? Blog is designed to promote me on Mahalo. Added Links, Twitter, Adsense, whole bit!
Re Adsense. Do we have any control over the ads on our pages? Example - On my Giant Millipede page, there's an ad for Centipede Extermination!! Not exactly the message I was trying to convey. Also, can't seem to move the ad blocks around to comply with How To formatting, etc.
Checking my page stats on Google with GreaseMonkey. Some are at #8 or #11, others have not even been "spidered" through yet. Suggestions? I'll send you sample URLs if you like, but not listing 21 pages here. Don't want you sending out the goon squad to get me.
Tried using https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal but doesn't seem to have helped much.
Thanks in advance for the assistance!
Victoria

M$Anyway, that aside. Here is this weeks "victim". I have a page called How to Ping Your Blog, its never made any revenue and I dont know if its had any visits, I will check out analytics in a minute.
On broad search the page is at 17 (page 2) of google, on exact search it is number 3 (page 1).
In your opinion, what can I do with the page to a) improve its ranking and b) get better or more appropriate ads, ones that people will click on?
What words, placed where (and how frequently) determines what ads are placed on a page?
Thanks

M$Hi @entelia,
Mahalo does not need to submit the managed pages to search engines, and neither do we. Only the top level domain of a website needs to be submitted, unless there is a page on a site that does not have links to it from any other page on the site. As long as there is a link, the search engines will find it. Make sure your pages are in categories, and they will be linked.
And the page view is turned off right now. Not sure for how long. Use Google Analytics instead. Just sign up for a free account, then use http://www.mahalo.com as your website, then copy the code... everything after the UA-, and put it in the settings tab on your profile page.
After a couple of days, go back to your Google Analytics account and you will be able to see not only page views, but keyword information and much much more.

M$yes, konsiders, your VM or anyone on staff can create redirects for searches within Mahalo. placing redirects does not redirect traffic from Google or other search engines, though. you need to have content on the page that will get you ranked for more than one term in order to pull traffic for more than one term.
Is the amazone section is good for the page?

M$Safi, every time I see that page I am impressed.
I won't go through all your text here, but I will make a suggestion. I don't see any related Mahalo pages on this page. Outgoing links are important just as incoming are... adding several related pages can help demonstrate that your page is part of a larger presence here on Mahalo.
Since I know you are already working on a related page for this, I would recommend including that page name, even though it is not finished yet. The same would go for the other Muslim holidays that you may build pages for. The page does not have to exist yet for you to place a link to it.
The advantage to linking to pages that you are going to build is that when you get the new pages done, they already have established incoming links to them and can be found quickly.
Hey @smartweb, could I get some help perhaps SEO'ing my gift card and coupon pages please?

M$chris... we want the page names to be singular
don't change that
just make the policies and restrictions plural... that's all.
then it will be consistent with what we are trying to do site-wide.
=)
Ok, Chris...
I chose just one gift card and one coupon page.
Staples Gift Card
This page is very well done. You are using complimentary keyword phrases in the guide note and in the related pages.
Two things I'd say for this page...
First, we are working to make Mahalo an authority on gift cards, and since we have used the singular in the page title, we are trying to use the plural on the page. One way we are doing this is changing the "Policies and Restrictions" title to "About Staples Gift Cards". I'd also change the inlink you have for that section that points to just "Staples" to point to "Staples Gift Cards", which is the text you have there already.
Then I'd add Office Depot Gift Card, Office Max, Office Max Coupons, and Office Max Gift Card to your related pages.
Deep Discount Coupons
For this page I'd add a section that talks about their deals. They have a Daily Deep Deal and a Deep Book Pick of the Month. Keep the information you put about it general, otherwise you'd have to update daily and this page doesn't warrant a daily update.
I'd also work on getting inlinks from other pages on Mahalo for this one. Talk to the PM's of DVD and Video centered pages and ask for a link, or talk to @robbrown and see if he can put some links on other pages for you. He is the VM for that category.
Overall, your pages are already using great SEO from what I see. Just keep it up and make little tweaks consistently and keep getting new links coming in.
thanks again!
Hi Chris!
I'm sorry I didn't get your question answered last week. I saw it just before the question closed and I had planned to DM you on this.
The milk and cookies will not be necessary, but I will try to look at two of your pages sometime today... that way you get one for last week and one for this week. I'll post another comment after I look at them.
I changed all the "Policies & Restrictions" sections (which are one of the fields when they were first presented to me in Tasks. I'll have to find a staff member for changing those singulars to plurals.
yeah, i have 4 where the page names are plurals...
How can I use Google Analytics more efficiently to increase the traffic and revenue for my managed pages ?
I mean what can I do with all those information ?

M$Hi ghanan,
Well, it really depends on what it is telling you. I look at the keywords that are getting me traffic, which pages are rising in the ranks, and overall how the trends are going.
One thing you can do is see which terms you currently get traffic for on a specific page. If you are getting 50 visitors a week for a certain term, go to Google and type in that term. See where your page ranks. Are you on page 3? 6? That is valuable information for you. If you are currently ranking on page 3 for a particular term, you know that you might be able to optimize the page a little better for that term or get incoming links using that term, and possibly move to page 2 or even 1. That's just one example of what you can do with it.
Thank you so much, Pellrider!!! My fave part is the goofy pet stories. Hope you enjoy them and thanks so much for the support!!!
Thanks! Will get ping going ASAP. Thanks for the info on Adsense at Mahalo. Re Adwords Keyword, just saw a reference to it and thought I'd give it a shot on a couple of my pages that are slow movers.
I am following your blog.
Thanks, Ritzy!! After the broadcast, off I go to ping! Checked blogspot, and I'm set to ping there already. More pinging needed. Thanks so much.
Just wanted to include a couple of comments. First you made me laugh with the google ad for centipede extermination not being quite the message you were trying to convey LOL, but a valid point. I have the same sort of problem on a couple of my pages.
Second, there is a Mahalo page on how to ping your blog, it might help you. How to Ping Your Blog.
I'll try to help with how to get follower here. My blog have hundreds follower, what I did is become a friend with my visitors, up date regular and the key is create useful contents.
You can visit my popular post : http://www.another-new-blogger.blogspot.com/2009/07/how-to-get-follower.html
Hi Victoria!
As far as I know, there is no drawback to hosting a blog at blogspot. Any time you have incoming links to Mahalo from a different quality website it is a benefit.
Blogs can take a little time to get established. The key is to post regular content that the search engines can find. Are you pinging your blog? Some automatically ping services for you. Wordpress can be set up to do that... blogger can as well. I'm fairly certain blogspot will have some setting you can use to have every new post noticed by the search engines. Pingoat is a free service that I have used previously to ping specialty services. Continue to post quality content, and advertise your blog and you will get a following.
I'm not sure if we have that kind of control over the ads on the page. If this was my own website, I would say, yes, however, Mahalo is seen as a search engine and the rules for Adsense are different here. This is really a question for @lon. I'll see if we can find out more.
As far as your pages not being spidered yet, it takes a little while, and then even after they have been indexed, it can take another week or so to actually show up in the results. It really depends where they are in their update process. From previous reports you've made, it sounds like you are making progress. =)
Using the Adwords Keyword tool only helps in certain ways. What were you trying to do with it? If you give me more information I might be able to answer you better on that one.
Thank you! All this amazingly valuable advice, and a Mahalo dollar to boot! Thanks, Smart Web, for helping us explore new frontiers.
