It's always wise to get a deposit upon signing a service contract. The florist, entertainment, hall, and caterer all require non-refundable deposits when their services are booked.

But the planning did happen and so all the arrangements (food, flowers, etc).
You have to charge them anyways.

That depends on the contract you have with them. Obviously, you've done the work, it isn't your fault the wedding didn't happen. But a lot of service contracts specifically state what happens in these circumstances, which makes enforcement much easier. And, of course, getting a deposit up front is helpful.

This would depend on a few things.

One. Did the customer (person paying for wedding planning) put a deposit down on your services? If so you are entitled to keep the deposit because a deposit ensures that you will hold that specific date just for that wedding. If the wedding did not happen your time was still lost and therefore you may keep the deposit.

Two. Was there a contract involved? If so then you may be entitled to more than just a deposit since you were ready and prepared for the day, and therefore should be paid.

If there was no money paid down and no contract then it would be very difficult to prove that you are owed the money. It would then be a matter of your word against theirs and you would not be paid.
