(1) Arrangements of daisies in a clear glass bowl with gold fish swimming in the water.
(2) A cupcake "tower" in the center of the table containing one cupcake for everyone seated (they're names were written on the side).
(3) A brandy snifter containing all the favors the guests could leave with (rather than putting them on the place settings or in an area by the guest book, they filled the snifters with what the guests at each table could take home - then they did a raffle for the snifters).
(4) Potted mums that the couple took home with them to start their garden with, and in some cases, these potted plants were raffled off during the reception.
(5) A box of trivia questions about the bride and groom to help pass the time while waiting for everyone in the wedding party to arrive at the hall - it was also a great conversation starter and ice breaker for those who were seated with people they didn't know.
I hope these ideas help!

I've always liked the idea of flowers and a vase with floating candles. It's simple yet pretty and elegant. On one of the pictures I don't really care for the purple color but it can be nice with a lighter color like white combined with very light peach or yellow.
Edit: Sorry about the last sentence that was incomplete. I intended to delete the whole sentence and was pretty sure I did but I guess the answer box glitched

Instead of pimping out someones business .... I have an idea you can use.... When is the wedding? If its fall - try having apples, and horn of plentys, and actual leaves from outside. Oranges, Reds and yellows would be best. Use apple cider as a drink!!
If its spring, have flowers that bloom in that season locally. Fresh, even hand picked flowers. Candles are always nice, but can be a hazard. I try to go for something that will be safe around all people-kids included.
Summer time would be nice to have sun flowers! How much more summer-y can you get?
Alot of other factors come into play besides just the season.
What colors are the wedding? is there a theme? How formal or informal is the wedding? what is the budget for flowers / centerpieces? What is the bride and grooms favorite flowers and colors?
This all comes into play when trying to plan a wedding...

These sites has a lot of cool ideas for centerpieces. I think the most important thing to keep in mind is whether or not the people sitting at the table will be able to see over the centerpiece.http://www.bhg.com/crafts/weddings/flowers/reception-centerpiece-arrangements/

That is cute and all with the ice sculptures - but not everyone can afford those! They run high!
