What are the best tools for developing for the Android SDK and the T Mobile G1?

I'm pretty excited that the Android SDK is Java-based, as my strongest PL is Java and I'm interested in developing some Android apps.

But, as they say, a <insert profession here> is only as good as his/her tools. What are the best tools for helping me develop some sweet apps for Android?

As a general Java IDE, I like using Eclipse, as it is free/open-source, and quite extensible.
http://www.eclipse.org/

There's an Adroid SDK plugin for Eclipse at http://code.google.com/android/intro/hello-android.html

and an IBM tutorial at http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/edu/os-dw-os-eclipse-android.html.

Hope that helps!

Good ol' Eclipse, what would I do without you? Do you know if there are any other tools that are available?

How about the Android Emulator?
http://code.google.com/android/reference/emulator.html

That should be pretty important.
Wish I had more time to try this stuff out.

Eclipse. The tools are meant to be used with Eclipse and Java.

Surely there are more tools than just an IDE--what are they!?

Just Eclipse and Java. With the Eclipse plugin
http://code.google.com/android/intro/installing.html

I guess you can say ant is part of the toolchain. probably will need it to build your project.

FWIW, Derek, I set these up recently, and it's very easy. I was up and running in no time.
