I'm an editor for a major news organization and I need to host my demo reel without making it public.
I'm currently hosting my own videos on my website at http://www.aaronhumphreys.com but I noticed yesterday that the videos aren't playing on the computers at work that are running IE6. I'm concerned that I may send a link to my work to a potential client that they will not be able to see.
I tried uploading to YouTube, setting the video as private and then embedding it on my site which didn't work. I would have to allow other sites to embed. I've received memos at work that prohibit posting to YouTube.
What is the best way to present the videos on my website, control who can see it and make sure it is compatible with older browsers?
Thanks,
Aaron

BlipTV and Vimeo are two very, very solid services. Also, SmugMug hosts videos now.
All three allow for private, password protected videos.

Thanks Jason. I'm going to use Vimeo. I like the way their password feature is implemented. I'll likely recommend blip.tv to a friend who is looking to place ads on his content.

You can upload-it to divshare and embed-it just like you would embed an youtube clip.

Check out Vimeo. They allow you to upload videos and require the viewer to enter a password before the video plays. Or you can set privacy on the video so that only your Vimeo friends can view it.
The password option is probably more along the lines of what you're looking for, since it doesn't require the viewer to sign up for Vimeo and become your friend before they can see what you've posted.

This was a perfectly acceptable answer, why was it voted as not helpful? "Not helpful" should be used only to mark bad advice, not to mark that it is not the best answer off the batch.
I'm definitely gonna use Vimeo. The quality is fantastic and the password feature is easy for the viewer to use. Thanks!
Have you considered using your web space and hosting the files as files vs. embedded video?
This is the first thing that occurred to me too. Most commercial ISPs offer free web page and/or FTP storage space. So you can post a web page (with a no follow, no index meta), with an obscure URL or even just the link to the video file itself. You can then send that link to people you want to view the video, without it being index or searchable by the search bots.
It would be great as mentioned above if "Best Answer" could get Gold, Silver & Bronze type of Best Answer ratings. MA needs to work out this feature for the site. I think they are working a way to rank the answers..

Why not just send the files via www.yousendit.com
