I don't know the specifics for MyQL, but in both SQL Server and Oracle a trigger is simply a command that is executed whenever an INSERT/UPDATE/DELETE (you can pick which of these three apply to the trigger, it doesn't need to use all three) happens against the target table and a cursor is a temporary recordset that you use within a stored procedure.
