Do you have an image of the font? Then go to
http://www.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/
and upload-it there. I have found many fonts in this way.
It's Gill Sans Std-Ultra Bold.
As for the popular movie fonts:

I'm not a font expert, but putting the movie poster here might help others help you. It feels like an IMPACT style font (again, I'm no expert). Also, it looks like they may have started with one font and tweaked it.

You should give Identifont a try, it's actually a lot of fun to watch it try to ID a font based on questions about each letter.
Check out the two related links for fonts used in other movies.
Since you seem interested in movie fonts, here is a link to a "Movie Font Quiz" where they show a few letters from a Movie poster and you have to guess which movie it is.

Where can I find the font used in Ferris Bueller's Day Off as well as other movie fonts?
I am looking for the font used in the title for Ferris Bueller's Day Off as well as the name. If you can provide me with a link that also happens to include other popular movie fonts, that would definitely guarantee a tip.

• Thank you so much. I love Mahalo but I often feel guilty not being able to tip everyone equally :-)

The font from the movie poster or the opening credits? I'm not a font expert, but putting the movie poster here might help others help you. It feels like an IMPACT style font (again, I'm no expert). Also, it looks like they may have started with one font and tweaked it.

Well, I tried to ID it for you using identifont.com but I can't seem to find the exact match. The closes I can find is "John Sans Condensed Heavy" although the O and D are slightly off. You should give Identifont a try, it's actually a lot of fun to watch it try to ID a font based on questions about each letter.

They seem to have found you Ferris, which is a common enough font. You were also asking about other movie fonts, & it's important to remember that many films, unlike Ferris, do not use standard fonts in their titles. They are designed by typographers hired by the studios & thus protected by copyright. So often even if you do find it (or most likely a home-made knockoff) you may not be free to use it if you have any sort of commercial intention. Good fonts are rarely free, so watch out for yourself unless you're just playing around.
