GoDaddy is a business. .info domains are not generally 89 cents, that was a special. You don't get the special price for a renewal. That is the way domain names work. Otherwise, no one would ever buy anything but .info names, and GoDaddy would go out of business. You can search online for discount codes for GoDaddy renewals, and find one that will get you a better price. These sites have discount codes that apply to renewals for .info. Also, with the discount codes, you might actually get a better deal than $8 on a .com, and there are always discount codes for those.
Plus, you can change the domain name just a little and get it as a .info again really cheap. For example, if you had sillyboy.info, you could change it to thesillyboy.info. It will mess you up in the search engines for awhile, but if your content is the same, and you report the domain change to Google, it shouldn't take long to straighten out.
What most people use the cheap .info names for is to get free privacy. You get free privacy is you buy 5 domain names. Otherwise, it's about $8. So you buy a .com, and 4 .infos, and you get the free privacy for less than $4. Most people never use the .infos they buy for this use, and they don't renew them. When the .com comes back up for renewal, they have to pay the full price for the privacy option, or drop it.

If you didn't specifically ask if the same sale would be applied to your renewal, then they are no obligated to tell you that it won't. So they did tell the truth, your renewal is approximately the going rate for an info domain; but it is higher than the starting cost because the starting cost was a sale price.

Answered Question

Mahalo is adding a tip to all questions that don't offer a tip.
How is it possible for godaddy.com to charge me less than $1.00 for a .info, and a year later, charge me over $8.00 to renew ??
Todays godaddy rate for a .info is .89 cents. How can they justify charging over $8.00 to renew when they never mentioned anything about an introductory rate expiring after the first year? I was told that should I renew, they will charge whatever the current .info rate is for that year. This is so so wrong . Godaddy had no sensible answer to me. Said that whoever told me that in his organization was misinforming me.
So that means all the .info's I have had, each of the sales reps misinformed me?

Dude, all hosting and domain registration companies hunt for new customers. So they give you very attractive offer at start. Later they can change anything, the plan charges, duration, etc. afterall they are the owner. Should you require more help ? Contact me anytime.

According to GoDaddy's own site, a standard .info domain for one year is $10.69. However, they offer an up front savings of $9.80 (that probably only applies to the first year). That brings the up front cost to $0.89. If you didn't specifically ask if the same sale would be applied to your renewal, then they are no obligated to tell you that it won't. So they did tell the truth, your renewal is approximately the going rate for an info domain; but it is higher than the starting cost because the starting cost was a sale price.
