How do you empty your Safari browser cache? A visual guide with step-by-step screen captures.

Please create an original, step-by-step, guide with screen captures on how to empty your Safari cache. Explain what a cache is and why you need to empty it.

We need this page to link to when users have problems inside of Mahalo!

a cache is a temporary folder where websites are stored so that they render quicker when you use them in the future. Many browsers now utilise this feature. However, it can make the browser run slower, takes up space on your computer, and can use up more resources than you may like when visiting that site. Here's how to empty it (on Mac OS X)

To clear the cache, firstly click the Safari header in the Menu Bar

Then select "Empty Cache" (alternatively you can use the shortcut Alt/Command/E)

Next, you select 'Empty' (it also tells you what the cache is here)

In what Operating Environment? Windows, OSX, Linux? And why don't you do it yourself? This is so simple to do and you seem to know how to do it!

See image below. Aslo note "Private Browsing" (or Porn Mode), enabled for more privacy. Private Browsing mode covers all tracks before you leave them. Just close the browser and go, no need to empty cache.

This is for Safari for Windows

First you need to Choose Edit from the toolbar, Choose Empty Cache:
http://www.connectedgeek.net/images/mahalo/20081222/s-empty-cache1.jpg

This give you a dialog box with the option to Choose Empty, click it:
http://www.connectedgeek.net/images/mahalo/20081222/s-empty-cache2.jpg

These options will clear out your offline cache for your browser; however it will not clear out your cookies or your safari offline database. To do this your need to choose your Edit menu item from your toolbar again and Choose Preferences

This will give you a dialog box that will have the option to Show Cookies, click it:
http://www.connectedgeek.net/images/mahalo/20081222/s-cookies1.jpg

A dialog box will appear with all of your cookies:

Choose Remove All or the ones you would like to delete, click Remove All (if that was the option choose:

Lastly, if you would like to clear your Safari offline Databases, Choose Show Databases, this will give you a dialog like your cookies... choose the Database or Databases you would like to remove and click the appropriate button:

you should probably clarify that this method is for Safari for Windows, as a couple of methods (mine included) were for Safari on OS X.
