We are a startup and we want to relocate. What's a good area in CA to be around tech people and be in the heart of the tech scene?

Mahalo is in Santa Monica. Many other internet startup go to SF to be around VC and skilled tech people.

We do not need VC as we are self funded and we're doing fine. We should be launched in a few months. We want to relocate because we think that being around a strong tech community and around successful people would be a great motivator and environment for us.

We were thinking of relocating to SF for motivation; we want to be around similar minded people. What is a good area in SF or elsewhere in California that would be great for a tech startup. We would probably just need to rent a 3-4 bedroom house (we are 3 people hacking at this) and work out of there at first.

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Silicon Valley or around the Bay area.
You know it's a tech-central area when it has "silicon" in it's name.
Start there. Big name companies like Adobe Systems, Google and Yahoo! base they company there.

Hello,I know my husband has mentioned many times San Jose. He was there last spring for his company. He saw many things, the biggest he talked about was 'silicon valley'. It's either near or right in Sand Jose. Which is very close to San Fransisco. It is in reference to all the high tech businesses in the area. The area seems to thrive on tech businesses. I will just link you the information as Im sure it will explain it in better detail for you. But I wouldn't doubt that it is THE place to meet wonderful minds in your industry and to make great contacts on a lunch break and so forth. :)
Best of luck!

I always loved SunnyVale. Right there next to Cupertino
40 minutes south of San Fran.

Cupertino is the home of Apple and other major Tech Companies.
