Believeable in what sense?

Certainly, given her age and physical appearance, she could be someone's mother. And a very good mother at that. She certainly struck me as a character who was both bright and kind and attractive.

Did she seem like Dr. Shepherd's mother? I'm not so sure. She captured his sharp, incisive tone. And you could see where he got his intelligence. But there wasn't the kind of physical resemblance that would make you say, "oh duh, that's his mom." In television, though, we usually forgive this lack of "believability."

Finally, I have to say there were two literally incredible moments. First, when she questioned Lexie about her sexual history. Who asks a stranger those kinds of questions? Again, par for the Grey's Anatomy world, but not (in the stricter sense) believeable.

And, second, what about her acceptance and endorsement of Grey as Shepherd's chosen one? Most parents need at least a few meetings with a future in-law before offering their full endorsement. And Grey admits she would require an even longer warm-up period. What would have been believeable, and more interesting, would have been a cautious optimism. Something that could sustain a few more episodes.

I sure wouldn't mind seeing Daly again.

Yes, I think that she plays maternal roles very well.

Still though, the acting and writing on Grey's Anatomy have been sub-par in my opinion this year. Mrs. Shepard's character could have been a lot more interesting than it was.

Although to be quite honest, I'm always rather negative about the show. My wife loves it. She watches Lost with me... I watch Grey's Anatomy with her.

Drmatt may have more to add, but the joy of marriage is often compromise :)

Oh yes. I like how she became very protective of Sloan (mothers are like that with their son's best friends) and how she immediately recognized that Dr. Hunt was showing signs of PTSD.

I hope she guest stars for a couple more episodes, that show needs some backbon.

I loved the episode that had her playing Derek's mom. I think she did a great job, of course I have always liked her as an actress!
