Was there a curse placed on the cast of the Poltergeist Trilogy?

What is the story behind this? Is it true or indeed, an urban legend? Is this a curse or just a case of unfortunate coincidence? How many of the cast members have encountered untimely deaths or strange and bizarre happenings? Do you watch these films with problems? If there were a 4th made by Steven Spielberg, and you were given a leading role, would you accept or reject it?

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

The "Poltergeist" curse is indeed an urban legend, as no-one has ever claimed to have actually casted the curse.

However, indeed, several of the actors and actresses who featured in the "Poltergeist" movies have died prematurely, most notably Heather O'Rourke, who played Carol Anne, the cursed girl, who played in all three movies, died of a bacterial infection at the age of 12.

However, the four deaths very likely an unfortunate coincidence, which is easily explained when you look at it in a statistical manner, and counting the entire cast. This one of course stands out, as curses are a major theme in the movie trilogy, and one of the deaths was the lead character, Carol Anne.

People love to see these kind of 'connections', that aren't really there, and myths are easily started. Especially when myths and superstition is a major theme of a movie. The same happened with "The Crow", in which Brandon Lee was accidentally shot with a prepped gun, which was supposed to be loaded with a blank.

However, in the case of "The Crow", the accidental death of Lee was a blessing to the production company, as the movie got instant recognition and raving reviews, mainly because of the accident.

Would I take on a (lead) role of a new Poltergeist movie? No, but that's not because I would fear a curse. It would be because I can't act... If I could act, I would love to participate in a Poltergeist re-make though.

Oh, did you know they are actually making a sequel right now, due to be released November 24, 2010? We'll see if the curse still holds after that!

Luckily, Spielberg will have nothing to do with it, though...

Wow, how interesting. I had no idea that another one was being made until just reading your answer. It's kind of eerie haha.
