Was it right to force out Bobby Bowden?

After decades of dominance at Florida State, Bobby Bowden was basically forced out as head coach. Did the school treat what was basically the face of their entire program out ahead of his own personal schedule? Should they just have allowed him to finish up whenever he wanted to, or was Bowden being selfish by sticking around longer than he should have and continuing to put an inferior product out on the field. What are your thoughts? Is this a matter where there is no right answer?

If the team wasn't performing up to the standards that the university thinks it should, then they had every right to force Bobby Bowden to step down. Having said that, I would have given him a little leeway considering all that he has done for the university's football program. If he continually had subpar seasons then the leeway goes away and there isn't anything to do but relieve him of his head coaching duties. But in general I feel much the same way as I do about Joe Paterno at Penn State. Leave the man coach as long as he wishes. He's a big reason why kids want to go to play for the Seminoles. Recruiting is so big in college football. Maybe a new head coach, especially one with a non proven track record will greatly hinder recruiting and thus produce an inferior product on the football field.
