I don't understand it personally. I'm excited for the new cast and who doesn't love to shoot themselves some zombies? I also like the fact that the new one is set in New Orleans and for that reason some of the zombies have a new look. The Tank for instance is wearing overalls... kind of funny! I am also excited for the new weaponry. Being able to use a chainsaw on the zombies should prove amusing.

1. Less or no more DLC for L4D. Instead of making anew game (wich in my opinion will only be a graphic update with more melee weapons and new boss zombies) they could have made all of this through DLC for L4D, instead of making a whole new game. I've spent quite some time playing L4D and its awesome, so why break the formula instead of making a winnign product better?
2. Change of Cast? no way! The same Cast must go on, with new ones that they have found in there survival adventures. No more Zoey or Bill? that would be devastating for me. Everytime I listen to Bills Post War trauma applied to zombie hordes I laugh a lot. Again new characters could have been added by DLC, also maps and anything you need.
L4D is still a strong game with a very active comunity L4D 2 could kill it, but Im still looking foward to see what Valve has in store.

Asa L4D player and fan, im a lil dissapointed that they are not keeping the same cast, but comeon, they did such a good job making the first one, im not worried in the least that the new cast will be just as satisfying and humerous.
They made a great game , all their doing is taking the foundation of it and adding onto it. So im not worried that there going to ruin it in anyway.
Yes they could be making L4D Downloadable content instad of a whole new game, but obviously they figured they could expand on a good game enough to make a sequal. The new changes sound amazing, and i would MUCH rather just buy the secend game, with all the content of the first one, and more, then go and download it on Live, < Keeping in mind alot of people dont have acces to Live, or dont want to buy Microsoft points >
All in all im very excited for it, Not making a sequal would be like leaving Halo at the first game =P and not making a Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo Wars.
I would be changing my opinion if they moved to a Left for dead 3 tho, unless its .. 3-5 years from now = )
Reason i say this tho, is mainly , i know alot of compinies use the first release as more of a test.. So now they know whats popular, what made the game great , and how to elaborate on it in the secend game which will be their main focus point.

basically the main problem is that we fear (being a L4D player) that this could ruin the L4D experience by the current factors: 1. Less or no more DLC for L4D. Instead of making anew game (wich in my opinion will only be a graphic update with more melee weapons and new boss zombies) they could have made all of this through DLC for L4D, instead of making a whole new game.
