The simple answer is "no, the camera pretty much sucks."
The more complicated answer is this is perfect for young kids. It makes taking, storing and playing with pics lots of fun. But as an upgrade to the DS Lite it is pretty lame. All the changes to the OS, addition of the store, etc. are welcome changes in theory, but I have to admit that they are not worth $40 extra.
If you don't have a DS or have a fat it's definitely the way to go. If you have a Lite, save the money.
The discussions over at Video Game Outsiders are quite good on this topic. Link provided to the forum thread. Also offered a link to my blog post on Nintendo handheld dominance for the heck of it.

I would recommend it if you are in the market for a handheld, just don't look at it for it's camera feature (the iPhone camera is criticized for not being good, but it's better than the DSi camera).

Who's got the Nintendo DSi? Is the camera good quality, because seriously. I am drooling over it.

It's a good handheld system, however the camera is terrible. It's fun to mess around with but your pictures will be just for goofing around, not really for memories. I actually like the ability to download small games over wifi. I would recommend it if you are in the market for a handheld, just don't look at it for it's camera feature (the iPhone camera is criticized for not being good, but it's better than the DSi camera).
