I play WOW. The good things, apart from the awesome design of the worlds you play in, the music, and attention to detail, is the camaraderie you can build with a guild, or even just a group of players you like playing the game with.
The guild my characters are in on the server I play on are very close knit and are willing to share information and help you as much as you help them.
The downside is the time investment. It takes me personally an average of 240 hours (10 days) to level a brand new character from level 1 to level 80. Some people make one character and stick with only that character. I create characters and level them to 70+ as needed for the professions in the game.
For example:
I have a level 80 priest (heals - holys spec) who does tailoring and enchanting for my own characters and other players and is by far my most well equipped character: http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Terokkar&n=Dhuchao
I have a level 80 rogue (DPS - combat spec) who does herbalism and alchemy.
I have a level 80 protection paladin (tank) who does mining for my materials and jewelcrafting.
I have a level 72 mage (DPS - fire) who does mining for more materials and engineering, just to blow stuff up :)
I have a level 71 warrior (DPS - fury) who does mining for more materials and is a "maxed out" blacksmith who can make epic items for higher level players, thanks to the materials sent down from the paladin.
I have a level 61 death knight whose sole purpose in the game right now is to practice herbalism and do inscriptions for my other characters.
My current character project is a level 27 hunter (DPS - beast mastery) who will eventually become my skinner and leather-worker.
After I level the hunter, I'll have all professions at my fingertips. The trade off is the time it will take to level my remaining characters.
Also, and no offense to anyone intended - if your pet peeve is grammar, I suggest the first thing you do when you enter a major city is to type: "leave Trade".
People generally speak in code, such as "LFM 2 DPS H VH" "LF tank H HoL", and until you learn the acronyms and what they mean, you'll be slightly confused or lost.
Now, does this mean that I don't have a life because I play WOW? Of course not. I balance my time playing WOW with work and other things in life.
