I would love it if they brought back Battle Toads! Every time I talk with friends about the old classics, all of which already have remakes, Battle Toads always is mentioned somewhere. They could revisit the story and revise the abilities the toads would have, if anyone remembers the "big boot" or "big fist" combos? I don’t think a 1st person style would be the way to go, maybe a new-age side scale? But as long as they brought back the sweet pause menu music. That awesome beat that would continuously play each time you paused the game...loved that beat.

I think if they remade Baldur's Gate, I might cry. Out of sheer terror that they would mess up what is already a beautiful and flawless thing.

I've been yearning silently (ok, maybe not that silently) for years for a Final Fantasy VII remake. I mean, come on. Can you imagine it in HD in next-gen graphics?? It would be enough to make me dance with joy.t I'd be the queen of the quickest pre-order at GameStop.

A remake of FFVII is oft in my thoughts. But it's been so rumored for so long I'm starting to doubt my faith. If it doesn't ever happen, Square Enix will need to be criminally charged for creating this PS3 tech demo video.

Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn is perfect? The graphics are pretty rough looking back. I mean, they work, but there's also a lot of blandness and the animations are kind of awkward (granted it's 8 years old). And the frame rate even with a super fast video card is choppy. Just sayin'. I love it, one of my favorites, but maybe it could benefit from some redone graphics. Has BioWare ever failed you before?

I was actually referring to the first Baldur's Gate (cuz I was so excited to see somebody else mention it, that I didn't thoroughly read your question until afterward >.>). To me, Shadows of Amn has always been second in the series, in more than just name.

I don't play games (usually) for the graphics. Sure, they could make it all pretty, but would they be able to recreate the depth, the gameplay, the full-on RPG goodness? If they just redid the graphics, but left everything else alone the way Square Enix has with their remakes, I would be thrilled. It seems like "remakes" often actually translate to "revamp" or "tweaking" and that always threatens to fix what ain't broke.

(BTW I don't recall ever having choppy framerate on either game. For the time, they were both pretty graphically impressive and detailed).

I'd really like to see Accolade's Hardball! and Tecmo's Tecmobowl remade. There's a shortage of good arcade-style sports games right now, and these stellar brands are essentially going unused. The recent Tecmobowl release for DS was really just a simple port, so it doesn't count. I want to see some sports games focus on gameplay and fun rather than they hyper-technical simulations we're inundated with now.

one game i really like on the nes was "baseball stars" by snk. you could make up your own players and build up there stats by winning games and home attendance.  it would be great with updated graphics and such.  also "adventure island" just a fun and classic game

BG2 is not a bad pick...did you know there's a few mods out there that make it a lot easier on the eyes when playing on modern PCs?

http://www.gibberlings3.net/widescreen/

Check it out - it lets you play BG2 in widescreen and all other modern resolutions supported by current PCs. Makes it a lot more accessible, also works for all the other Infinity Engine games like Planescape: Torment.

Back on topic...I'd love to see a remake of NBA Jam, with HD graphics, online play, and all the old NBA stars and some new ones, and even some more silly cameos.

Thrasher: Skate and Destroy was a really interesting and well done skateboarding game, until the Tony Hawk series snubbed it out. Thankfully, Skate and Skate 2 have come closer to following its more realistic approach, but I would still enjoy a remake using their control system.

I don't think any game should be remade. I think they should leave it the way it was originally made. Sometimes you just gotta love 8-bit sound and graphics.

I'll name two.

The Guardian Legend -

This was a shooter/adventure game for the NES. It combined a vertical scrolling shooter with an overhead adventure not unlike a futuristic Legend of Zelda with guns, and a minor puzzler aspect too. There were probably ~20+ different weapons you could use, some of the best game music ever. It probably had more crap on the screen than any other NES game ever, too.

Why The Guardian Legend?

It could be redone with more modern graphics and not lose the feel of the original game, a pseudo-3d version of the game could look great, and modern hardware would be able to maintain those nice busy screens while having fluid action. A remixed soundtrack based on the original would only sweeten the deal.

Here's a video of River City Ransom. There were SNES sequels to this game in Japan, and it has been released on virtual console for the Wii. But, what it really needs, I think, is a refresh. Keep the style and the music much the same, but spiff it up a bit.

I'd like to see the original Metal Gear for NES remade for a current console - I don't understand why everyone is still calling it next-gen graphics, they are the current generation now, are they not? Surely we aren't recognizing the PS2 and xbox as the current generation still?

I think that a lot more fans would be able to pick up the one that started it all if it had a more congruous look and feel with the more popular sequels, specifically the Metal Gear Solid series (1, 2, 3, and 4). In fact, they could remake both of the Metal Gear games that were considered canon and allow fans to play the hand-to-hand fight against Gray Fox in the middle of the minefield in glorious 3D graphics, which would cement some of the concepts shown in Metal Gear Solid that some of the younger players might not know about(due to them not having started playing games until the Nintendo 64 era).

Also, I'm just a really big fan of the Metal Gear series.
