In Final Fantasy 4 DS, what to do before you can kill the dark elf?

when I come at dark elf he kills me and then there is no one to save me but on youtube they say, you be saved by a certain person

Before you can kill the dark elf in FF4, you need to talk to Edward in the left side of Troia Castle.
