It's a good way to get out your aggressions. Some people need a way to relieve tension, relax after a bad day at school, unwind after being stuck in traffic for 3 hours... If shooting a bunch of pixels on a screen helps that person to feel better, hey why not.
And of course, some people are competitive. Being a really good Counter-strike player gives them a sense of accomplishment, boosts their self-esteem, makes them feel pleased with themselves. Whether other people who don't play see that as valuable or not, the benefits are still real and they're legitimate. Some people make themselves feel good by being employee of the month, some people keep their house really clean...and others play Counter-strike really well.
Last but not least, some people enjoy the social interaction. Joining a clan or forming a group of friends that you play with regularly can be important to some people. There's groups that have played together for years and created real friendships.
(And what difference does it make if you're a girl? I'm a girl and I've played Counter-strike...)

Counter-strike, like other "first-person shooters" (FPS) help develop coordination and good reflexes. You need to be fast and on the mark to shoot someone before they shoot you. And don't be fooled thinking girls don't play CS...I'm a girl and I play Counter-strike.
