Stuck in Secret of monkey island, any tips?

can't get to the jail door quick enough with the green liquid from the kitchen it is melting the cup

Try using a mug with the mug o' grog. When the mug o' grog starts melting, use it with the empty mug to transfer the contents until you reach the jail.
