Somebody else was complaining about this in a forum post. So you're not the only one having this problem. You could try setting your wingmen to defend mode until you yourself are close enough to engage an attack. Otherwise, try accelerating with the right trigger.
I found a site that lists the different controls for HAWX...except for Wii. But all the controllers are set up similarly, so it might help.

In HAWX for PS3 when I order my wingmen to attack they leave me in the dust. How can I go faster?
My wingmen leave me in the dust, how can I go faster, dont have a manual because the game is rented, and it would seem as if I should be able to go as fast at them, my wingmen.

I wrote the walkthrough. The wingmen seem to be infinitely fast, where you cannot be, for some reason. I know what you're talking about, because you send them to attack, and they'll zoom ahead of you to get there, but in my experience, you can't go any faster than you do if you just hold R2 or whatever the 360 equivalent button is. That's rather odd, but you don't ever actually need to go that fast, it would just be helpful.
