Hulu on Xbox360?

I've become a fan of the Netflix Streaming option that is available through my Xbox360 and would like to work on streaming other content. In a perfect world I would love to have Hulu streaming if at all possible. Does anyone have a proven way to do this? I currently have the Xbox set up online but don't have it set up in a network with a PC (though this could be an option if no other way is available).

What do you all have? Websites... Details... Pictures... the more detail the better please!

You do need a PC networked with your Xbox. After that, you need PlayOn:

There is a free 14 day trial.

Here's a review from Lifehacker:

A video showing how to set it up and how it works:

There are some very loose rumors about official Hulu integration with the 360, but until that happens, you're forced to use a local PC as a relay. Personally, I don't see a huge advantage for Hulu to extend service officially onto the consoles. They won't make any ad revenue from web based ads so all they're left with are traditional preroll / postroll / inline terrestrial ads and compensation from the console manufacturers. That doesn't sound like good business to me and if I was them, I'd stay online online.

What I would really like to do is simply hook up my laptop to the TV and play everything through that. I've been trying to get that setup to work with little success so far though. Even though the TV has a DVI connection my laptop will not recognize the TV as an external monitor when I hook it up with a VGA to DVI connection. I have hopes that messing around with this will work at some point but it isn't going easy for some reason.

That's what I do too, Spoon.

Here's my setup:

Samsnung LCD with 3 HDMI inputs and 1 PC input
PS3 -> TV via HDMI
Computer -> TV via loong VGA cable
Laptop -> TV via mini dvi to hdmi converter

It all works pretty well. I download video automatically using rss feeds on the desktop and flip the inputs over (harmony 890 remote) when I want to watch something downloaded. When the kids want to watch a movie, they're all on a USB hard drive connected to the PS3. If I need to demo something on the laptop, I hook it up.

I will just have to keep messing around with things since I know the laptop should hook up without too much of a problem. I suppose I could always use my hackintosh, since I used a small form factor case, for a more permanet option as well.

Also, I have the same remote... don't know how I ever lived with any other universal remote! The Harmony series really raised the bar for ease of use.

If you can figure that out, then you will have opened Pandora's box. But, more than likely, Hulu will end up blocking it if anyone were to come up with an answer. They've already done that with Boxee once they discovered that Boxee could run on Apple TVs. Hulu has made it very clear that they do NOT want their service running on a TV at any time. I think it's quite ridiculous, actually. You offer a service, but want to dictate to your audience how they can view it. What difference does it make whether or not I watch it on my computer screen, or on my TV screen? It's the same service. The reality is, they think providing streaming content to TV is the death of cable, and the cable companies aren't going to sit by and let it happen.

But, back to the solution:
I think really the best way to get Hulu running on your TV is to get a Mac Mini, get the dvi converter, and hook it up to your TV.

In the past year I have purchased 2 desktop computers and a laptop so spending the money on another piece of hardware is low on my options and the only computer I could easily use for this task is my laptop... this has not worked out as easy as I had planed though but I just started messing with the idea about 24 hours ago.

I have used Playon by Mediamall on my PS3 for 6 months and it is your best bet:

http://www.themediamall.com/playon

These guys are reliable and they actively work to update their client to allow videos to run as smoothly as possible for you. I have been very pleased with the effort they put into updating this program.

You install Playon onto your PC and it creates a media server that is detectable on your XBox 360 (or a PS3 or media server capable Blu-ray player or media box).

Keep in mind you need at least 2Mbps in internet speed or you will get laggy, choppy, and poor quality video. I have a 5 Mbps connection and I rarely get trouble viewing Hulu. Also, be sure you have a processor that can handle the streaming.

Finally, a word of advice, I DO NOT recommend streaming Playon from your PC wirelessly unless you have an N-band router. I hard-line my PC to my router and from there it is OK to connect to your game console wirelessly or with a cable.

For best results, cabled connections to both the PC and game console is recommended!

Besides Hulu, Playon gives you access to Netflix (pointless for Xbox 360 owners, I know), Youtube, CBS (complete Star Trek Original Series, complete Twin Peaks), ESPN, and more!!! People are even able to create plugins to stream from more online sources such as Rev3, AdultSwim, and Redtube!!!

Highly recommended, well worth your money!!!

Playon is something I will have to look into since I can dedicate one of my computers to this purpose and set up the Xbox wired or wireless without a problem. I recently moved to a 10Mbps dedicated line which is why I am so focused on finding as many ways to stream things from the internet as possible... need to take advantage of the bandwidth I now have!!

Really hate the 'no Mac' option, but still nice to hear about.
