How do I get to Cassandra in Infinite Undiscovery?

I've gone on the boat port zola to kolton. I'm really confused.

If you just recently got Balbagan in your party, you board the boat in Port Zola and head to Kolton, then move forward until you trigger a cutscene.

When and how do you get balbagan back in your party? I've just come from helgatia after it has been attacked and got komachi to join me and am on my way to cassandra but cant get through the cracked rock past the hut. Im confused
