Keep going until you reach an area were a freelancer is throwing rocks at your party; let the freelancer hit Frog twice to trigger a scene in which he catches the second rock and it turns into the gold gemstone. Teaches Master mune.

That is correct. I am writing Mahalo's guide for Chrono Trigger DS. You first need to complete Frog's sidequest in The Fated Hour. In other words, you need to get the upgraded Masamune. Afterward, go to the Denadoro Mountains (where you found the Masamune earlier in the game) and put Frog as the party's leader. Head through the mountains as you did before. Eventually you will get to an area where a Freelancer (the bird enemies in this area) begins throwing rocks at you from across a waterfall. Frog will catch one of the rocks which will be the Gold Gemstone.
