Shoot them in the head from long range.Sniper/hunting/assault rifle works best. Don't let them close with you. Retreat and return if necessary. Keep them in front of you. Use frag grenades if you have them. Their fire does major damage. You may want to use a chem to increase your damage resistance prior to the battle. Also, eating fireant meat increases your resistance to fire for a short time.

If they're in a group, shoot for the antennae and they'll attack eachother. Otherwise, just aim for the head. I think you can also cripple the leg to slow it down if you really need to.
