On the white stairs that are a few feet from the front there are another set of foot prints in the middle area once you find the prints policemen will tell that the ladder is ready.-

When the shoe prints show up, you
are able to use the magnifying glass and measuring tape. When using
measuring tape, you have to make sure to put the cursor at the top of the
footprint and pull it all the way down to the bottom, or maybe it works from
the bottom up to.

If its done right, Sherlock (or whoever) says
something like "this is the thief's size 9 footprints, or something.
