Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders is now in his sixth hour, how long will he speak?
Does he have a chance at the record?
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I would be happy to see him topple the old record. Strom Thurmond's record holding filibuster against the Civil Rights Act of 1957 was over 24 hours long. I would much rather see the record being held for disagreeing over a more reasonable topic.

M$You are right. It was a remarkably long speech, intended to draw attention for its very length. That seems pretty unusual. I don't remember hearing of that tactic. It did get a lot of attention, especially with the web picking up on such things quickly these days. A lot more people will have heard of Senator Sanders now, and maybe check out his views on things. He's the leftmost Senator in the Senate, and has been for years.

It was about 8 and 1/2 hours. Also this was not technically a filibuster as it was held during an open speaking period on the floor. This did not move towards blocking a vote on the bill.
