Ustream.com VS. Stickam.com for vodcasting: anybody have experience with either platform? Or, are there any other ones worthy of note?
does anybody have some stellar experiences and/or horror stories with either one?
i follow a couple casts on each of them, and my impression is that the ustream shows seem to be the ... hmm ... "higher end" of the spectrum. that could be completely coincidence.
what are the pros/cons of going with either one?
thanks in advance,
/phil
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

The downfall to Ustream is not having other people on other cams with you. But a nice benefit is the control you have over chat since it is IRC based. If you are using a PC, Ustream has a Flash Media Encoder that can deliver crystal clear picture with the right camera. Good luck with your decision.

M$Indeed. Although, whenever I got to the home page I see leo laporte steaming with hundreds of people in his room just fine. They may be favoring bandwidth to him since he's an entertainer, but the casual user will almost always have bandwidth problems.
that's kinda the impression i get. it's sort of the "hey, jr. high buddy! wanna chat online?" provider.
fine for casual chats, but not so much where something robust is needed ...
There is also www.justin.tv But I still recommend Ustream.

Ustream can do co-hosting too. All the other person needs is a ustream account and needs to be streaming. Then you can add them.
Have you heard of BlogTV (blogtv.com)? They offer the feature of having a co-host, meaning one other person can be on audio/video at the same time as you.
i'll check out BlogTV - that's exactly what I need: just a single slot for a co-host.
have you used 'em, personally? i mean, is it a decently solid platform?
Nice, thanks for that info, I thought that you could just do a picture in picture stream of your own multiple webcams.
yikes, i didn't even notice there was a single feed in the Ustream interface.
so it sounds like -
Ustream: better service, clear sound, a polished environment
Stickam: amateurish, but the ability to have guests on camera
I haven't personally used it to broadcast, but I have watched a few live shows which seemed to run quite smoothly.
A few very popular people from YouTube use blogtv as their platform to broadcast live for their fans/followers. A few links below:
