He is a Christian , and has been attending Christian churches for over 20 years. He takes part in prayer calls with some well known ministers, including those that don't agree with his politics.

If he has any symbols of other religions around, they are most likely gifts that were given to him, or just kept as works of art or cultural artefacts.

I have non-religious friends in the West that have a statue of Shiva in the house, and don't even know what it is. It's just some attractive object from a foreign culture, the same way as I have an Aboriginal art print from a trip to Australia.

I was going to answer, but you hit on all the points I wanted to make.

Just to add to the idea that someone of one religion may have a marker of another . . .

FYI I have Christian friends who have statues of Buddha in their house. They consider him a gentle soul and someone to be respected.

Another agnostic friend has Genesh in her living room and states "he looks really cool" ^_^

The Newsweek article is very informative about his religious journey and his views. Tells you a lot about the man, whether you care about his religion or not.

On a side-note: How did you get this question to be M¢57, when team-tipping M$0.08 ? Some strange calculus at work here...
(great answer by the way..)

The total tip is weird. Did you report it as a bug?

I don't see how 50c + 8c = 57c. :)

I was going to link to one of the many videos of President Obama eating cheeseburgers etc. in front of dozens of journalists, but it's more fun to look at the menu from the White House Correspondents Dinner, which he ate in front of every Political Journalist in Washington. They had as the entree, "Petite Filet with Sundried Tomatoes".

Of course not!

Were you not paying attention to how Obama's Christian minister kept stuffing his Christian foot into his Christian mouth with both hands?

Obama spent a bit of time in a Muslim school when he was a kid, but that's so far from Hinduism that they're not even the same sport, much less in the same ballpark.

The asker is probably not from the US, and wasn't following the US election that closely. How many Americans do you know that would use the expression "Lord Hanuman"?

Barack Obama puts strong emphasis on being a christian and not a muslim.
Barack Obama is stepping up his effort to correct the misconception that he's a Muslim now that the presidential campaign has hit the Bible Belt.
At a rally to kick off a weeklong campaign for the South Carolina primary, Obama tried to set the record straight from an attack circulating widely on the Internet that is designed to play into prejudices against Muslims and fears of terrorism."I've been to the same church _ the same Christian church _ for almost 20 years," Obama said, stressing the word Christian and drawing cheers from the faithful in reply. "I was sworn in with my hand on the family Bible. Whenever I'm in the United States Senate, I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America.

I hope this helps:)
