Part of me thinks that he might be within New Hampshire, just not in the same vicinity.
When you look at his age at the time he was incarcerated and his mental stability, it doesn't paint a picture of him being able to travel too far from what he's familiar with.
I'm surprised that he hasn't been a guest star on America's Most Wanted.
If a show like that could spend a few minutes giving information and a good description, he might just come out of the woodwork.
It looks like local media keeps the story alive, but a bigger area needs to be informed of this person at large.

I wish there was a way of having closure, so the people of Newport could rest a little easier tonight, but from the amount of years now that he's been gone... it only creates another scary story to tell by the campfire.
If I had to guess where Mr. McGrath is, I'd say he's pushing up daisies somewhere not too far from home.

Where do you think John William McGrath might be now?
John William McGrath was sentenced to life in the NH State Hospital for the shooting deaths of his mother, father and each of his two brothers. At the age of seventeen he shot each of them in the face. He was found not guilty by reason of insanity.
He escaped on August 13th 1974 and has not been seen since. Have you seen this man? Can you help find him?
