I've been in hotels several times with roses. But since roses in some climates can grow to be small trees, maybe that's moot.
I think it has to do with the whole pastoral image of trees inducing calm. It's stressful to be away from home. And if you don't sleep well, you're likely to blame it on the hotel. So making the room comfortable and peaceful is important, and many people associate an idealized countryside with trees, or beautiful boulevards with trees, as calming. Thus, trees in every painting.
I think it would be a bit disquieting to enter a hotel room and see paintings of treeless prairies, or urban streets that were just too gritty.

Why do the pictures in US hotel rooms always feature trees?
Seriously, I've been on the road for the better part of the past eleven years, and all of the hotel room art is tree-based. Paintings and photos. If the painting isn't just a tree, there is a prominent tree in the painting. Is there some reason for this? Was there a study that concluded "People Like Trees"?
