what are good december destinations for a family with two young children, other than HI
i would love some other ideas for december vacations to warmer climates for a family with kids. they are too young for snow or international travel. we've been to hawaii and want to try something else. the kids are 2.5 and 1 respectively.

Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida is lovely this time of year. And it will be all decorated for Christmas if you go in December.
Florida weather is not quite as temperate as California weather--you may get some days where it dips close to freezing, but it is much better than the Midwest, the Northeast, or the Great Plains.
If Disney is too expensive, Florida is still a great trip even if "The Happiest place on Earth" is not your destination.

San Diego is a great place to take families, and from the Bay Area it's a very short flight.

1. Seaworld is fantastic for kids and adults, and they seem to have some pr7ograms centered around Sesame Street called "Bay of Play"

My wife and I had lunch with Shamu and it was really cool.... these huge killer whales are right next to you (food wasn't amazing, but it is very kid friendly).

3. I always have lunch outside at Hotel Del Corodado which is one of the most buetiful hotels in the world. F-18s and other planes regularly fly by over the seas as they land at the airforce base. I've never actually stayed there, but my brother has and says it was perfect.

They have cottages by the beach as well. I've never stayed or seen these, but they look perfect for a family:

If your kids travel well you could drive from the bay area, stopping in Los Angeles over night which would break up the drive into a five and 2.5 hours. instead of seven. Flying is obviously super easy.
Hope this helps!

Hah, it seems you and I are on the same page!
Have you considered San Diego?

I grew up there so I can tell you from experience that San Diego is absolutely *gorgeous* in December. Average temperature is usually in the high 60s, low 70s while 75% of the days are sunny and clear [1].
Additionally, there are *tons* of great activities for kids in San Diego. I have many fond memories as a kid going to:
Sea World [2]

The San Diego Zoo [3]

The San Diego Wild Animal Park [4]

And Legoland [6]

Also, while you are in San Diego you can stay at the historic and beautiful Hotel Del Coronado [7]. Seeing it is worth a trip itself!

If you'd like to be a little unconventional but still have a very fun family experience, try going to Australia. Temperatures in December are completely manageable there since it's in the Southern hemisphere. And not only is Sydney one of the most amazing cities on the planet, you can enthrall your children by checking out the Australia Zoo while you're in the country.
The zoo is owned and operated by the family of the late Steve Irwin, best known to the world as the Crocodile Hunter. I think it would add to an unforgettable vacation experience for your family!

Hmm... I think roelofbotha said his wee ones were too small for international travel. It's a great idea though!
Franklyn D Resort in Jamaica is an all inclusive resort where your room comes with a nanny...this means you can spend as much time with your kids as you like, but still have some romantic time with your significant other.
