How do I uninstall Windows? (details below)

I installed Windows Black Version 23 to play with it. It only took a short while for me to hate it and want to revert back to my OEM version of Windows XP. Problem is when i boot from the CD it tells me that my HDD is corrupt. I have done every test under the moon and found no problems with the disk drive. Is there some thing deeply rooted in this hacked version of windows that will not allow me to reinstall?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

You could try to perform a Windows XP repair install (see link below), but there's no guarantee this will work.

Before attempting something like this in the future, I'd strongly suggest using a utility like Acronis True Image to take a snapshot of your boot drive before you begin, so that if all else fails you can restore from backup and be back up and running.

Will it let you install something like Mint Ubuntu or another Linux flavor? That would be one way of seeing whether or not it's the program or the disk. You can always then wipe the disk and reinstall your Win XP.

i have no clue how to install or operate any *nix stuff. I know that i have run 3 HDD check programs they have all come back as problem free, i have also run chkdsk and gotten good feed back from that. I just wonder if this crappy version of windows has some hack to not let you uninstall it (since i probably uses my machine as a bot now).

If you have another computer reformat the drive there first. Otherwise if in your bios you have boot from CD first the installer will format it their. If that is where it is saying your HDD is bad that is just strange so you will have to reformat it elsewhere.

Funny you should ask this. I've had to get a second hard drive and reinstall Windows from scratch. My HDD was corrupt, but it was going through the chkdsk cleanly. So, after installing Vista on a new HDD, I mounted the old drive on the computer and tried to copy the files off of it. It kept having problems. In one case Windows Explorer (not IE) had to restart in the middle of the copy. In another, the copy said there were problems with copying the file and the copy terminated. So, I'm not so fond of this hard drive nor Windows assessment of its state.

My newer computer which is being rebuilt when I have the time and energy. Time to reinstall all my apps.....maybe tomorrow.

I downloaded RUbotted from Trend Micro and it said my current version of Windows was botted, so maybe that was the problem for me too?

You can't "uninstall" windows. You can reformat your harddrive using a program like Dariks Boot and Nuke (http://www.download.com/Darik-s-Boot-and-Nuke/3000-2092_4-10151762.html?tag=mncol) or installing a Linux system over the top will format the harddrive as well.
