What are the steps to become an Obstetrics Ultrasound Tech?
My sister is really wanting to become a sonographer for taking ultrasounds of babies. She has graduated high school with honors, but she isn’t sure where she needs to go from there. Is this available at most tech schools? Is there usually waiting list? Are there any secrets or tips to getting into the program. Is it easy or hard to land a job at an obstetrics clinic?

To become an Obstetrics Ultrasound Tech, you have to gain experience in one health care profession, or have a good background in science and math.
Get proper formal training from an accredited institution .This could be a two year associate’s degree program or a four year bachelor's degree program. Most people prefer to take the 2 year course so that that can start practical work as soon as possible. Your courses should include, medical ethics, patient care, physiology, basic physics, and instrumentation.
You also have to register with an organization such as the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography. While you are at it you’ll have to take and pass an instrumentation exam, an obstetric specialty exam and a general physical principles exam. If you choose to do the 2 year course you’ll need to take continuing education classes to keep up with changes in your field of expertise and also renew your membership whenever possible.
Practice good communication skills so that you can be able to relate with your patients when you are at the job.
While you are in college, look for a part time job or you can volunteer to work as an assistant for an Obstetrics Ultrasound Tech, this will help you get a clear understanding of the job and prepare you further for the medical world.
