The difference is the user interface. Ubuntu uses GNOME, which has the menu bar at the top of the screen, and looks a bit more similar to Mac OS X. Kubuntu runs KDE, which has the menu bar at the bottom and will look more familiat to Windows users. They also have different file managers and other applications.I use both and don't have a strong preference. I probably use GNOME more often, as I find Kubuntu's tendency to name all of its applications with names starting with K annoying,
