There are an overwhelming number of problems, compromises and features that must be considered when choosing the "best deal" on a new TV.
Gone are the days when we could rely on a single company to consistently produce high quality televisions with the features and price point we want. Today, manufactures are forced to choose between competitive prices and quality. All manufactures form their product lines on varying degrees of compromise between price, features and quality.
To find out what comprises have been made, you could post the model number of a couple of TV's that you are considering here along with the features that are important to you right here on Mahalo.

You could consult the AV Club of the Internet at: http://www.avsforum.com . You'll have to read through a fair bit of material at the AVS Forum, but in the end, honest reviews and real problem reports and solutions are the best way to find the best deal.
I hope that this helps

Is Panasonic equal in quality to brands like Samsung and Pioneer?
More specifically, I'm looking to purchase a 42-46 inch 1080p HDTV. I have a 37" Toshiba 720p LCD TV and this next one I'm thinking will be a bit more high end. Samsung is easy...they're at the top of their game with TV's. Who else is up there?

Don't overlook Visio. I have been very impressed with a 50" Visio plasma for about a year. Price isn't everything, it's ok to be low if you do it by being efficient

I think what I think is most compelling is the internet connectivity that some tv's provide but honestly what I care about the most is a good, high quality picture with a great contrast.
I don't need to spend the cash for an Ultimate TV; I think I want and need a Premier TV and I doubt I'd spend more than $1,250-$1,500 because I could find last year's ultimate TV for that price if I'm patient.
Have any in mind?
