I own a 52" DLP HDTV and a Sony DVD/CD/SACD. When I fast forward a DVD, I get a gray box onscreen. Why?

There are several methods to solve your problem, best bet is to first contact your manufacturers. Sony Electronics Dept:

If you don't want to sit on the phone you can check Sony's database and see if the issue has previously been reported

That seems kind of strange - I've no idea what it is, but if you could provide a photo of this happening, it might be enlightening enough to get an answer.

I'm going to make an early guess that it is a cable sync problem. Buy a new cable of a different brand and giver a try.
