Why is Entourage only a half hour?

I love the HBO show Entourage. It's one of the 3 shows that I watch without missing an episode.

Every time I watch an episode, I'm disappointed at the end because it's short.

Can anyone find an interview or other source that explains why the show is only a half hour? There must be a reason.

Also, what do you think of this season so far? Do you like Eric's relationship twist? Do Lloyd and Ari's story lines mix enough traditional Entourage into the show to keep it anchored?

Sadly I've found very little on the subject of why its a half-hour, though general idea is that HBO categorizes the show as a comedy, and thus in their infinite wisdom, only gets a half hour. I found the tv.com entourage forums and there's a lot of like-minded people about the time frame of the episodes:

I know it may not help, but looks like a good read. Me, I've watched a few episodes on and off, though after reading the Wiki entry, I'm more inclined to watch the earlier seasons now with the Aquaman movie plot! (Yay DC comics!)

probably this guy explained it as to why its only half an hour. i believe so too.

"It's a half hour show because it's a comedy, not a drama. It is unlikely that HBO will produce a 1 hour episode. However, it's not unusual for the 5 major networks (not HBO) to have special extended episodes of their shows. Not only that, but some of their 1 hour dramas feel more like comedies."

They make more of an impact on their audience if it's only a half an hour. It makes you want more and more, which it seems like it's doing it's job. Also, if it was an hour show it would become less funny and entertaining because of all of the commercials that they would have to run. I would rather watch a well put together comedy show that is only 30 minutes with less commercials than to watch an hour comedy show with more commercials that loses it's comedic effect.
