There is no Season 8 - the show is not being brought back. ABC Family just acquired the rights to play Season 7, so the advertising has been a bit misleading.

And then we get to watch the most painful Gilmore Girls season - stupid Christopher. Stupid Alexis Bledel turning Rory into a spacey, over-priveleged, dainty flake (remember when we loved Rory for being down-to-earth, moody, and resourceful? Ahhh, the good ol' days!).
Sure, I'm bitter. But I'm sooo going to watch it.
Have you ever seen this season before? If not, remember that it's a bit different because after Season 7, the original writers left the show. And the writers that took over clearly had no idea what made Lorelai and Rory tick. But they did know how to cheese off fans royally!
Happy watching, and good luck!

Monday, June 8.

No, there is no season 8. There will be no more new seasons.
The number "8" slipped past my radar and I didn't catch that the asker was hoping for another brand-new season.
You see, ABC Family JUST started airing Season 7 - making it a brand-new premier for their network. So they hyped it as a new season of Gilmore Girls. But really, that season had aired on the CW years before, and has been available on DVD for some time.

You're right - I didn't even pay attention to the #. Yes, it's the final Season 7 that they're debuting.

Just my thoughts, I thought they did an excellent job with season 7. Stars Hollow expressed their love for the Gilmores immensely. Rory was excited about her job, and everyone was happy. They left the series with a smile on your face and in your heart. As much as I wanted it to go on forever I was glad they ended it with love. Just like many fans had fallen in love with them.

Whereas I think that the final season disrespected the Gilmores - Lorelai who started as this strong heroine ended up being this messed up woman who couldn't commit and couldn't love (except for Rory). Her baggage was too heavy for her to be really happy....until the final episode, apparently.
And Rory, the girl who started out strong, independent, brainy, and determined. She ended as a snobby, privileged brat with no student loans and a job handed to her through her rich circle of friends. Potting Shed Rory would've/should've had to work for it more.
Sure, the final episode was touching and tear-jerking. And I was glad to hear Luke cop to a number of wrongs in Season 6, but it was too little too late. Our Gilmore Girls really checked out back at the end of Season 5.

I am so pissed at ABC family for having us all think that there might be some hope of a new season 8. They REALLY NEED to make a gilmore movie to finish the series up the correct way. It WAS the BEST show on tv. My husband and son even liked the show. It was different, hilarious and smart. Lauren and Alexis thought they were going to hit the movie scene big time.... As we can see they're still trying. They should've given the show one more year. Same with Amy, she let all the fans down by leaving. Anyway, i guess all we can do it hope they do make that movie some day. Even for tv would be great.

i agree with you. i was sooooo excited to think a new season, but when i looked it up it was just the reruns. how lame. if i wanted to see them i would pull out my box set of all the seasons on dvd. i also think they should make a tv movie, some many unanswered story lines, plus i just love thoses Gilmore Girl.

(SPOILER)
If you were a Christopher fan, I suppose the whole thing might be palatable (I was a Luke fan from episode 1). And I suppose if you never cared for Logan, it might be tolerable to see their relationship slowly unwind and watch Logan dissolve into his own immaturity.
But that final episode - oh how it made me cry. I just wish we had gotten to see a wedding. I know that it was supposed to be poetic and all that the "Girls" were still on their own at the end of the series, but I just thought it was sad.
