There's not a huge amount of crossover. The shows were fairly independent, and, actually, on different networks for the last two seasons of BtVS, IIRC.
That said, it wouldn't hurt to keep your watching roughly in sync, but you should definitely *not* watch the final season of Angel until you have completed BtVS.

Personal judgement. Watch all of BtVS and Angel when they first aired (like half the people here, I'm sure :))

What's the best way to view the Joss Whedon series "Angel"? (NO SPOILERS PLEASE)
Currently started watching Buffy, about a quarter of the way through season 3, so please, no spoilers for either series.
I was wondering how Angel should be viewed. Should it be viewed side by side starting with Buffy season 4?
Are there any crossovers that would ruin something for either series if not viewed as originally aired? (Please, no specifics)
Or does it not matter at all, just as long as it's started after season 3 of Buffy?
Thank you!
