I would have to say Battlestar Gallactica. I really enjoyed that series, too bad it's now finished. If you can buy a DVD of that then you should try watching it if you haven't.

Depends on what you are looking for, but if you want something that has a lot of entertaining lines, I would highly recommend Firefly (unfortunately it only ran for 1 season, and is no longer on air, but I believe all the episodes are on msn). However, for just straight up sci fi I really couldn't recommend anything
