Sex and the City is best when its watched in order. They sometimes make references to things that have happened in the past and it is easy to get confused if you don't know their back stories.

There are many shows that should be watched in order. IMHO, "Sex and the City" is not one of them. Even though there are many plots that continue from one episode to another like a typical soap opera or hour long drama, the show still works if viewed out of order.

Well, it usually depends of the person but if you watch the 1st Season or at least the first 3 episode and you like it, yes you will like to watch it from season 1 to 6 and even watch the movie. it has become popular in HBO because is a good serie.

it became a social phenomena. Four high-powered, fashion-obsessed women living the good life in New York have it all, except for stable romantic relationships.

My answer would be a yes since it is worth watching it.

I'd aggree that it has to be watched in order as there is a continuation of story lines from the pilot episode to the movie (ie Carrie and Big, Charlotte and the baby obsession).

I actually missed the first 4 seasons, being one who was not going to give in to watching something so hyped. However, a friend loaned me season one and I watched all the episodes while I was doing my ironing over the course of about 2 weeks. (Not that my ironing took 2 weeks to complete...in spurts). After that, I ended up buying the other series on DVD that were available at the time and then waited until seasons 5 and 6 were over before I bought the DVD sets. I like to watch the show in a clump.

Anyway, it is a great series. Enjoy!

Yes, Sex in the City should be watched from beginning to end, if you are able to get into the characters (which they are pretty fun in a popcorn and soda, light and fun kind of way). The first few seasons in particular have more interesting topics per show. The later seasons become more focused on being a bit outrageous and targeted on fashion, but there are still some laughs.

@baalcat I agree with you--it's great to have on when you have a project, and more fun if you watch it in clumps, as then the cliffhangers are easier to bear.

I would recommend borrowing or Netflixing a few discs before purchasing on itunes, at least until you decide if you like it enough to own.

I started watching regularly during Season 3 and only caught up with the first two seasons on DVD a year or so later, so YES, it can been seen out of order or just an episode here or there and still be enjoyable.

Of course, as a dedicated and slightly obsessed fan, I would strongly recommend watching the entire series from beginning to end. One gets a better understanding of where the characters are coming from and how they evolve.
